On March 27th, a test blood donation took place in Lviv at a bloodmobile - the first mobile blood collection station in Ukraine (photos are here). 21 people donated blood for military and civilian patients of the Lviv region. The procedure was conducted by specialists from the City Blood Service Center of the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv.

"Bloodmobiles are the future of the blood system. Ukraine would only need 5-10 blood centers for testing and processing blood components, but there should be many more blood collection points than there are now. In Israel, bloodmobiles are widely used in places with large crowds - shopping malls, educational institutions, etc. - and they collect about 90% of all donated blood in the country. We hope that other cities will adopt Lviv's experience so that blood donation becomes easier and more accessible for donors themselves," says Iryna Slavinska, co-founder of DonorUA, President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Blood Donors, and co-author of the Law of Ukraine "On the Safety and Quality of Donor Blood and Blood Components".

The mobile blood center has five beds for donors and a comfortable resting area before and after the procedure. There is a mini-laboratory and a location for consultation with a doctor. At the bloodmobile site, four qualified medics work to accompany donors throughout the entire process - from preparing for blood donation to the post-procedure period. There is a special refrigerator for storing patients' blood.

The test blood donation at the bloodmobile took place near the central entrance of the Hospital of St. Panteleimon, as part of the First Medical Territorial Association of Lviv.
